As the loneliness rates among the aging population is increasing due to factors such as lack of contact with friends, families, and loved ones, we wish to bring more happiness and joy into the community. We aim to do this by creating relationships and connections between youth and seniors through music.
We believe that intergenerational connection is extremely important and beneficial to both parties. Youth have a warm and infectious energy that can spread to the seniors, and research has shown that it both gives a greater sense of fulfillment to the seniors and is also beneficial to their mental and physical health. Intergenerational connection also helps youth gain empathy and a more positive view of seniors, helping to break down the system of agism. The seniors can also pass on the wisdom and experience that they have gained over the course of their lifetimes.
We believe that music is one of the best ways to connect people. Music is the universal language— no matter what language you speak, where you are from, or what age you are, music unites our experiences, joys, sorrows, and everything in between. We wish that through the spread of music, we can achieve our mission.

Founded in June of 2023, Link-age is a group of youth musicians based in San Francisco. Our members range from ages 10-16 and play a variety of instruments, from the violin to the piano. We volunteer at senior centers around San Francisco, playing music and forming connections with our aging community.
